Governing their villages, farms, and agriculture by themselves was a large part of the farmers’ prosperity.
There was no nobility here to appropriate the landscape and the property. This, in combination with a well-developed business sense and a great demand for goods, resulted in turn in successful business trips.
These journeys provided ideas an impulses for construction styles from other villages, trading sites, and towns around Sweden and Norway, and sometimes from countries even further away than that. In addition, Hälsingland has been spared from war since the early 1700s, when the Great Northern War came to an end. This also contributed to the farmhouses, with all their splendor, being preserved up until today.
